Step 5: Add a new Storage Vault
With Comet, backups can also be configured to be sent direct-to-cloud or to be sent through the Comet Server and then to cloud storage.
A wide variety of storage options are supported:
- Most S3-compatible cloud storage can be configured with Comet. We cover how to set up various cloud storage in our Storage configuration guide.
- On-prem storage can also be configured using Storage Role on a Self-Hosted Server.
- There is also the option to use Comet Storage powered by Wasabi, which is available at no markup to Wasabi’s publicly listed prices.
To set up storage, you must register a new Storage Vault either by manually entering details, or by requesting a Storage Vault from a Storage Template. Using the Storage Template option is the recommended method for most scenarios.
Several aspects of the Storage Vault can be configured: storage quotas can be set, retention policies can be applied to tell Comet which data should be kept for how long, and the storage type can be hidden on the Comet Server and Client interfaces.
