The Comet Backup system works on the client-server model.
The backup software consists of two components:
- Comet Server, a server-side application that manages user accounts and stores backup data; and
- Comet Backup, a client-side application that performs backup and restore operations on a user's device.
The Comet Server runs on a designated computer, and this Server acts to manage, control, and monitor backup jobs from client devices.
Comet Server is offered in two packages:
- Self-Hosted, in which you install Comet Server on your own hardware.
- Comet-Hosted, in which you access a managed instance of Comet Server running on Amazon AWS.
The different components of your Comet setup are covered in more detail in our Overview and Concepts guide. Follow the steps below to get your Comet backups started in 15 minutes or less!
